What are the differences between the environmental approach and the social approach to crime prevention?
  • The environmental approach is situational prevention and is based on rational choice theory which encompasses effort, risk, reward and excuse of committing crimes, (and it needs broad-based planning and architectural design). The social approach focuses on the offender of crime and hence it aims to prevent crimes through the social impacts on actors: to emphasize community development, minimize social-economic exclusion, address social deficits, change personal values, and conduct earl intervention.
