What is the difference between pragmatics and semantics?
Semantics and pragmatics deal with meaning.Generally speaking, semantics concentrates on meaning that comes from purely linguistic knowledge, that is, literal meaning of words or sentences.Or semantics describes meaning statively only, it is context-independent and deals with sentence meaning.Pragmatics concentrates on those aspects of meaning of speakers’ utterances rather than on the meaning of words or sentences, and implied meaning of utterances.Or pragmatics describes meaning dynamically, it is context-dependent and deals with speaker meaning.
