投资是指经济体（国家、企业或个人）为获得预期收益或效益，将货币或其他资源等经济要素投入某一领域，以形成资产的经济活动。预期收益主要指经济收益，也包括社会收益。投入的资金（资本）可以是货币资本，也可以是实物资本或其他资源。由于各种资源都可以折算成一定的货币价值量，所以，投资最一般的表现形式就是投入货币资金。投资作为一个客观经济范畴，具有数量上的集合性、机遇上的选择性、空间上的流动性、产业上的转移性、收益上的风险性和周期上的长期性等特点。
