    Ernesto Miranda was arrested for 1 an 18-year-old girl. The police arrived at Miranda's home at night and asked him to go with them to the police station. Miranda, 2 he did not realize he had a choice, went with the police. After two hours of interrogation, Miranda confessed 3 the crime. On appeal to the Supreme Court, Miranda 4 that he would not have confessed to the crime if he 5 of his right to remain silent and to have an attorney. After discussion about the problem, the Court determined that a suspect must be warned 6 custodial interrogation of his right to remain silent, that any statement he does make may 7 against him, and that he has a right to an attorney. Specifically, the court stated:" He must be warned prior to any questioning 8 he has the right to remain silent, that anything he says can be used against him in a court of law, that he has the right to the 9 of an attorney, and that if he cannot 10 an attorney one will be appointed for him prior to any questioning if he so desires."
