    Alongtheflanksinspringandsummer,however,thepictureisverydifferent.Foranincreasingnumberofwarmyears,anetworkofbluelakesandrivuletsofmelt-waterhasbeenspreadingeverhigherontheicecap.
    Themeltingsurfacedarkens,absorbinguptofourtimesasmuchenergyfromthesunassnow,whichreflectssunlight.Naturaldrainpipescalledmoulinscarrywaterfromthesurfaceintothedepths,insomeplacesreachingbedrock.
